Someone who is dependent on alcohol medically is called an alcoholic. Alcoholism is the incapability to control the amount of alcohol that is taken at any given time. Abusing alcohol is not necessarily alcohol dependency; alcohol abuse is when too much alcohol is taken within a single sitting. Doing something consistently can become a habit, and gradually someone becomes dependent on the drinking lifestyle. Dependency is unhealthy both mentally and physically, and it’s challenging to overcome.
These are the red flags that show one is slowly becoming an alcoholic. An alcoholic will; have problems at work, they will be less energetic than their colleagues, they will have random blackouts and worst case scenario, they will start hurting other people Having a desire for alcohol and getting withdrawal systems is another sign of alcohol dependency. When someone who has been drinking decides to stop taking alcohol their body goes through withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms include sweating, nausea or anxiety. If the above symptoms are a little close to home, then you or the person facing them needs to see a doctor.
A step in the right direction is accepting your situation and accepting that you need to sober up. No one can force you to stop something unless you genuinely want to; thus you must have a goal, you should know what you want at the end of this journey.
Start from a fresh palate throw out any alcohol and rid yourself of any trace of it. Set some goals for yourself and try to be as stubborn as you can with your will to leave your old habits behind.
Catch up with your friends about your journey so far. True friends will avoid putting you in compromising situations that can cause you to have a relapse..
Other than a home support group, you can take it a step further and join an AA meeting, where you can share stories with other people going through similar things that you are going through. This networking will motivate you to get out of your situation.
Take notes of every good thing that has been happening around you after you decided o take on this journey. If you enjoy spending time with your family, note that down.
Eat healthy foods and exercise. Destructing yourself will take your mind away from the alcohol. Making such steps may seem little, but they will keep your head above the chaos that you were in before. You will regain your strength back and start having more time that you can spend with your family and friends. There are various things that are waiting to be discovered, and you can use that time to find them. You can join a clay moulding class, poetry sharing, maybe take some photography lesson. Being idle and lazy will get you back the beginning.
